  • Unai Emery excited ahead of match against Bologna
        • Emery has to offload Aston Villa star who was just as bad as Rodgers vs Forest

Aston Villa have joined the transfer race for Como star Jacobo Ramon, with the defender available for a move to the Premier League.

Villa are interested in signing a new centre-back amid manager Stan Collymore’s criticism of Ezri Konsa, with the former forward saying: “There was talk of Ezri Konsa joining from Aston Villa, but he had had a bad few months to the point that he was left out of the squad for the game against Nottingham Forest.

Unai Emery’s side have been away from Chelsea in the race for the top five so far and a 1-1 draw with Forest at The City Ground was not the worst result in the world, but the manager could call up Konsa for tonight’s game against Bologna and the centre-back’s goal in the 3-1 first leg win could prompt him to call up Konsa.

The Villains are in a good position to advance to the semi-finals and will face the winner of the tie between Nottingham Forest and FC Porto after the first leg.

While Emery is focused on winning his first major trophy at Villa Park, work is progressing behind the scenes ahead of the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa joining the race to sign former Real Madrid and Como star Ramon.

This comes as reported by TEAMtalk, which reveals that Madrid are keen to bring the defender back to the Bernabéu, but face competition from a number of teams in the Premier League.

Interestingly, the centre-back, who is rated as ‘strong’ by scout Ben Mattinson, is open to a move to England after impressing in Serie A this season and making the second-highest number of defensive contributions (7.5) in Como’s squad.

Unai Emery excited ahead of match against Bologna

Emery spoke ahead of Thursday night’s game against Bologna, expressing his excitement for the business end of the season.

“It’s a privilege to play in Europe and reach the quarter-finals. I’m enjoying it and sharing it with the players, club and supporters.

“I really like playing in Europe and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the last game in the Premier League goes and how we do in the Europa League and I’m really enjoying it.

“We know tomorrow is a challenge, but it’s a game that we have to really focus on and respect. We enjoyed it today, we’ll enjoy it this afternoon, we’ll enjoy it tonight, we’ll enjoy it tomorrow morning.”

The Spaniard has a record of winning the Europa League four times and reaching the final five times, so there is good reason to be optimistic.
