The former Middlesbrough manager has performed well since taking over from Ruben Amorim, but it remains to be seen whether he will be appointed as the club’s permanent manager beyond his current contract, which runs until the end of the season.
In today’s press conference, Carrick hinted that he would like to continue, but there is no update on the situation at this time and he is not in any particular rush to speak to the board as he is focused on continuing to deliver results at Man United…
Michael Carrick talks about his future
Asked about staying on as United manager beyond the end of the season, Carrick didn’t say much other than to say how much he enjoys the job.
“As I’ve said many times, I enjoy being here,” Carrick said.
“I’m enjoying the role I’m in, I’m getting good results and I’m in good shape.
“There’s a lot of work to do. We want to continue to improve, you know… There’s only so much I can say on that, but I’ve said it many times, I enjoy being here and I love being here. It’s a real honor to be in the position that I’m in.”

He added: “Actually, what I’m really looking for is not a deadline. It will become clear when it becomes clear.”
“I’m here now to help the team and help the club get results. So far we’re going well… and that’s all I’m really focused on right now.”
Should Manchester United keep Carrick?
Carrick is clearly willing to take the job, so it will be interesting to see if United decide to take a chance on him.
| Coach Carrick’s statistics | victory | draw | loss | Win % |
| Manchester United (caretaker) | 2 | 1 | 0 | 66.7 |
| middlesbrough | 63 | twenty four | 49 | 46.3 |
| Manchester United (tentative) | 8 | 2 | 2 | 66.7 |
The former England midfielder is relatively inexperienced and the Red Devils may prefer a big name who has won at the highest level.
At the same time, we can’t ignore Carrick’s impressive form since taking over, so his long association with the club and experience of winning under Sir Alex Ferguson means he could be the better option.
