Manchester United officials are reportedly focused on making major signings this summer, with Champions League matches likely to be played at Old Trafford.
Fernandes reveals decision to stay at United
Bruno Fernandes has revealed that his wife played a key role in his decision to stay at Manchester United last summer.
The 31-year-old United captain has been linked with a big-money move to the Saudi Professional League, with his agent Miguel Pinho reportedly in talks with Al Hilal over a potential £100m move.
Fernandes told BBC Sport’s Wayne Rooney Show:
“Obviously, the situation in Saudi Arabia, the money thing… there was a lot. The good thing about my family is that my wife is pretty pragmatic, like me.
“We know very well that we don’t want to be the richest people in the world.
“We just want them to realize the dreams they had and have a good life with their kids and be as successful as possible.
“My wife’s words were, ‘Did you achieve your dreams? Did you achieve everything you wanted?'”
“And that one little thing she said told me she was on the same page as me. Let’s keep trying and see where this takes me.”
Fernandes appears to have justified his decision by producing his best performance for United this season as they aim to qualify for the Champions League.
He has scored eight goals and provided 18 assists in the Premier League, two short of the record currently shared by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
Choameni updates to Manchester United
The Red Devils have been linked with multiple midfielders to partner Fernandes since manager Fabrizio Romano confirmed they would sign two players this summer, but journalist Andy Mitten has revealed that the club’s La Liga scouts are only considering one player.
In fact, he reports that Real Madrid star Aurelien Choameny is a real target and the only target United are eyeing in Spain.
“United understand that he could be available. My understanding in recent months is that it is possible. As far as I know, he is the only player from Spain that United are looking at.”
Choameni has made 29 appearances in La Liga this season, as well as 13 in the Champions League, and is reportedly worth £70m by Madrid.
United want to sign a big-time player to mark their return to Europe’s elite competition, and signing the France international, who has already won club football’s biggest accolades, would certainly fit the bill.
The 26-year-old, described as “world class” by Transfermarkt journalist Stefan Bienkowski, will be an immediate replacement for Casemiro and allow Fernandes to continue his impressive attacking power in the red shirt.
