MADRID — Iga Swiatek withdrew from the Madrid Open Saturday due to an unknown illness while playing in the round of 32 against American Ang Lee.

Lee won by default as 4th place Swiatek withdrew with a lead of 7-6 (4), 2-6, 3-0.

Swiatek, the 2024 Madrid champion, requested a medical timeout while trailing 0-2 in the deciding set. She returned to the court, but called it off after Lee held serve.

The Polish star defeated Daria Snigl in straight sets in her second round opener on Thursday.

Lee, ranked No. 34, recorded his second career win over a top-10 opponent. She will face Leila Fernandez in the round of 16.
