The Argentina international has been in great form this season, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side.

It now appears that the Gunners are seriously considering the possibility of signing Alvarez, with Ben Jacobs reporting that they have held interviews with the player and those around him.

While Jacobs talks about Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez, Simeone is also quoted as confirming his interest in the star player, which he described as “extraordinary”, so watch below…

Signing Julian Alvarez is exactly what Arsenal need

Alvarez would be a dream signing for Arsenal, giving them a much-needed upgrade ahead of next season.

A complete striker, Alvarez has excellent shooting technique and is a threat both inside and outside the box, as well as being creative.

The 26-year-old has already proven he can thrive in the Premier League as a Manchester City international, so a return to English football shouldn’t be too big of an adjustment.

Overall, the Transfer Fit rating system gives Alvarez an 18/25 rating, something the North London giants should consider.

Alvarez probably loses points for being expensive and he’s not even the youngest, but he performed very well overall and gave the AFC a clear upgrade in an area that had been a problem for them all season.

It will definitely be interesting to see how Alvarez performs against Mikel Arteta’s Atletico in this week’s Champions League semi-final.
