Chelsea are reportedly set to approach two more managers for the vacant position at Stamford Bridge, according to Simon Phillips.

Phillips said through his Substack that Chelsea have already made initial contact with representatives of Andoni Iraola and Xabi Alonso.

The Blues are also expected to contact the agents of Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac.

Phillips says Kovac has been considered by Chelsea in the past, but other names also appear to be attractive options.

Alonso has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid earlier this season, Glasner will leave Palace at the end of the season and Iraola will leave Bournemouth at the same time.

What does Chelsea’s next manager need?

Managing Chelsea seems almost impossible at the moment as there is an atmosphere of turmoil at the club under this current ownership.

The West London giants were a completely different animal under coach Roman Abramovich, often simply hiring the best manager and signing the best players with the aim of bringing them the big trophies at the moment.

However, while this CFC project is built around young players and long-term projects, the issue is complicated by frequent managerial sackings and inadequate contracts.

Whoever comes to Chelsea next needs to be ready to work in this environment, helping young players develop and hoping to be able to cope with bigger teams.

On top of that, whoever joins Chelsea will have to deal with an increasingly frustrated and impatient fanbase who don’t seem to be in tune with the owners’ intentions.

There are some top managers in the world, and this is definitely a completely different challenge than anything they’ve had to deal with in their most recent jobs.
