Manager Roy Keane singled out Andy Robertson’s “terrible” performance as Manchester United took a commanding lead against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

With United leading 2-0 at half-time, Sky Sports pundits labeled the visitors a “bad five-a-side team” after assessing their defensive performance.

Roy Keane slams Liverpool’s first-half performance

The first half was characterized by Manchester United’s relentless intensity and clinical finishing.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in just the sixth minute, followed by Benjamin Šeško’s controversial goal in the 14th minute, which was allowed to stand despite a VAR check for handball.

Alun Slott’s side protested the decision, but Keane insisted the manager should have been more concerned about his players’ lack of composure.

“(Slot) is not going to be happy (with Sesco’s handball call), but he should be more angry with the team.

“They look scared to death. They got off to a slow start and conceded two goals defensively – the second goal, Robertson was brought down at the back post, Robertson defended all this way and moved forward… oh, it was terrible.”

“Liverpool look like a five-a-side team, but they’re not a five-a-side team.

“They are not athletic and give the ball away cheaply. United look like they can score every time they go forward.”

Despite spending close to $500 million in transfer fees, the Reds performed poorly all season.

Many would argue that the club is in a period of transition, but the problem seems to run deeper, with the culture and mentality that Klopp instilled in the club seemingly torn apart.

Liverpool need to respond to that terrible performance for 45 minutes. Slott has to change things quickly or it could be an embarrassing night for the defending champions.
