Manchester United reportedly have nine midfielders on their summer transfer target list, including Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleva.

We’ve seen these names linked to the Red Devils several times, and it looks like we could add a few more big names as well.

Ficages said Aurelien Choameny, Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes, Alex Scott, James Garner and Shay Charles are also being considered at Old Trafford.

Fichajes says United fans will no doubt have some favorites in mind for the role, but the club are looking to invest up to £150m in that part of the squad and could bring in several new players.

Analyzing Manchester United’s midfield transfer targets

From that list, it would certainly make sense to have Anderson and Wharton as two of the top targets. This talented young English duo looks like a dream option, but the price makes it a bit unrealistic. And a long list of other top clubs are certainly chasing them.

Beyond those two, there’s also a lot to be said for investing in prospects like Fernandes and Baleva, who have shown great potential in the Premier League, even if they haven’t yet reached the level of Anderson or Wharton.

Even if for some reason these names don’t work out, MUFC could still do well to sign players like Tonali and Garner, with the Scot also showing a lot of promise at Bournemouth.

Charles is a surprising name given his relative inexperience, but it could end up being a smart investment for the future.

The 22-year-old played for Manchester City in his youth and has impressed with Southampton, albeit at Championship level.
