  • Why Liverpool should sign Choameni
        • Liverpool are favorites to sign Olise for £87m

Football moves fast and Arne Slott may be a little frustrated that his great achievements as Liverpool manager have faded into the background.

Of course, there are good reasons for this. Liverpool have been terrible for the majority of the season and the Dutchman is definitely suffering from second season syndrome with a bad game.

However, the 2024/25 Premier League champions are on track to qualify for the Champions League, which could open further doors this summer.

Once again, the Reds need to make fundamental changes in the transfer market, and there is no doubt that their struggling midfield needs a revamp.

Attacking reinforcements will come, but Liverpool’s midfield has lost the vigor and verve of last year, with players like Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenbirch underperforming so far.

With changes sure to be made, FSG cannot afford to inadvertently bring in the wrong players. With that in mind, the recent report should be of interest to fans.

According to TEAMtalk, Aurelien Choameny is at the center of growing tensions at Real Madrid, with Liverpool looking to capitalize on that and bring him to Anfield. The 26-year-old camp has already been in contact with the Reds.

Of course, signing a big-time player for the Whites doesn’t come cheap, with Manchester United also keen, so it’s understood that a figure of £70m has been touted.

Liverpool’s midfield has been fooled by flattery this season and should not be sold after signing a new contract, but Gravenberch is not doing well and Choameni could be the perfect upgrade.

Why Liverpool should sign Choameni

Choameni is part of Real Madrid and his level of toxicity is rising. After a few trophy-winning years, problems have surfaced in the capital and Liverpool could reach out to him and bring him into the next chapter of his career.

Grabenbelch is currently holding down the fort at the bottom of midfield in the slot, but a lack of physicality in the middle has been one of the core points of the Merseysiders’ decline, and Choameni will help solve that problem.

He is a combative number six and will provide a more Fabinho-like presence at Anfield than Gravenbelch has provided in recent years.

Perhaps that’s what Liverpool need to move forward and get back into the limelight. Grabenberch is more progressive and has had a good career, but Choamenyi has the punch that Liverpool don’t have right now.

But the France international is also one of the best passers in the world when it comes to choosing the right passes for deep midfielders.

In La Liga, Choameni’s passing accuracy and dueling success are compared to other midfielders and he emerges near the top. This is not surprising. He is one of the best players in the business and has been hailed by former teammate Chema Andres as “the best defensive midfielder in the world”.

Grabenwerch is certainly an elegant midfielder, but he also lacks the natural ability to exploit gaps in the opposition and push the play forward. In it, he summarized Slot’s struggles in the build-up, particularly with Mac Allister falling by the wayside.

Liverpool need a profile like this. For example, FSG are said to be in talks to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, but Wharton is not a combative player and won’t be able to solve the slot problem on his own.

With Choameni’s involvement, Liverpool could afford to sell Mac Allister and bring Grabenbirch to his knees from the weight of No. 6 responsibility, a shadow of the elegant star of the 2024/25 season.
