  • Palmer open to move to Old Trafford
  • Manchester United not interested in attacking reinforcements

Manchester United have made a decisive and ruthless decision regarding one of the top talents in English football.

INEOS bosses have officially ruled out a surprise move for Chelsea star Cole Palmer this summer, despite widespread speculation and reports that the player is keen to engineer a dream move to Old Trafford.

According to the Mirror, United bosses were adamant that it was not possible to finance the signing of the 24-year-old playmaker, choosing instead to prioritize key defenders and central midfield reinforcements.

The Manchester-born attacker grew up supporting the Red Devils and is reportedly very impressed with the club’s recent resurgence under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

Palmer open to move to Old Trafford

Moreover, Palmer has become increasingly unstable in west London after a very frustrating campaign.

His dramatic decline in form as Chelsea continue to struggle has led to doubts about his inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the next World Cup.

Desperate to secure Champions League football, Palmer saw Old Trafford as the ideal escape route.

But the potential financials just don’t add up for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his recruitment team.

Manchester United not interested in attacking reinforcements

United are reluctant to sanction new attacking players after investing heavily – around £210m – in revamping their attack last summer.

Signing Palmer from Stamford Bridge would require a signing fee of around £90m, but his lucrative £150,000-a-week contract, which runs until 2033, makes it even more expensive.

The Red Devils feel they need to address other positions quickly rather than signing a player like Palmer, who is seen as a luxury addition.

Palmer’s decision to step down shows Man United’s newfound pragmatism under INEOS.

The Red Devils are demonstrating a disciplined, data-driven approach to their rebuild by rejecting the temptation to pursue high-profile and sentimental contracts in an already deep offensive department.
