Another high-profile departure appears imminent as Manchester United prepare for a major summer overhaul under the INEOS regime.
Unpopular midfielder Manuel Ugarte is actively planning a summer move from Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Despite being under contract until 2029, the 25-year-old Uruguay international has been completely marginalized in Manchester, opening the door to an intense bidding war led by Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Ugarte’s time in Manchester has been extremely frustrating since joining from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.5m in August 2024.
Manuel Ugarte is struggling at Manchester United
The ball-winning midfielder initially struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League, but things have only gotten worse since Michael Carrick took over the managerial reins from Ruben Amorim.
Under Carrick’s progressive management, Ugarte only started when Coby Mainu was injured and was an unused substitute in recent important wins against Chelsea, Brentford and Liverpool.
Behind the scenes, the club’s hierarchy has already made the final decision. Widespread reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe personally approved Ugarte’s impending sale.
With veteran Casemiro also set to leave the club, Man United will be looking to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window.
Red Devils ready to make changes in midfield
In order to raise this money, United are prepared to ruthlessly cut their losses against Ugarte.
Although his stock may have declined in England, Ugarte’s attacking and combative profile remains highly coveted across Europe. Galatasaray are currently the most concrete suitors.
As Plettenberg pointed out, Super Lig’s leading players held extensive and specific talks about a transfer earlier this year, but the move ultimately fell through.
With the summer season approaching, Ugarte is actively looking for a way out and the Turkish club is ready to return to the negotiating table.
