Jacobs downplays rumors of ‘consensus agreement’ but confirms genuine interest
Despite the excitement building among the United faithful, respected journalist Ben Jacobs has moved to clarify the current state of play.
Moving on to X, Jacobs provided an update. Interest is concrete, but an agreement is not yet across the finish line.
He said: “Ederson and Manchester United remain players to watch. However, as revealed on @talkSPORT last month, any suggestion that Ederson would agree terms or that Manchester United would make a bid is premature at this time.”
“Ederson is one of the real targets as Manchester United prepare to sign at least two midfielders. However, Atalanta’s offer is seen as high given that Ederson only has one year left on his contract.”
Jacobs’ update comes after United were reported to have made a move for the midfielder.
Italian journalist Mollet recently revealed that the Red Devils have made the most significant move, reportedly offering a better financial package than other suitors.
The more difficult task for United will be to agree a fee with the Italian club.
Ederson is in the final 12 months of his contract and Atalanta are reportedly willing to settle for a premium, despite the fact that a player’s market value would normally be reduced.
Midfield reinforcements expected at Old Trafford
Edelson’s pursuit is part of a larger blueprint. Manchester United are reportedly preparing to sign at least two midfielders during this period, indicating a clear intention to move on from the aging profile of their current squad.
