Newcastle United have set their sights on an attacking upgrade and have made inquiries to sign Jarrod Bowen from West Ham United this summer.
The Magpies’ plans are clear this summer. They need offensive reinforcements and will eventually need to bring in a suitable replacement for Alexander Isak. The job was taken over by Nick Waltemaide and Yoan Ouissa, but both have since been stripped of their roles, with the former even relegated to central midfield.
As a result, several potential options have emerged, including Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez. Suarez, the Barcelona legend’s namesake, knows how to find the back of the net in a similar way and has reportedly caught the attention of players at St James’ Park.

Magpies are in pole position…
However, he is not the only one whose name is on the list. According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have started making contact with Bowen in the summer with a view to signing him. The West Ham captain faces the possibility of adding a relegation spot to his resume as the Hammers move within two points of safety with two games remaining.
If West Ham are relegated, the forward’s price is likely to fall. But if the London club survives, he could cost up to £60m this summer, giving Newcastle plenty to think about.
In terms of upgrades, Bowen will be an immediate improvement over Woltemaid and Wissa this summer. There will be legitimate concerns over the fact that he is already 29 years old and has no career ahead of him yet, but Newcastle will still benefit from what he leaves behind.
£60m Bowen will be an instant upgrade at Wissa
The price may seem steep if West Ham survive this season, but Bowen proved in London that he can quickly become a valuable asset. The versatile forward has scored 64 goals in the Premier League during his time in the top division, eight of which have come this season. Whatever the end result, he certainly did his part.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said the club captain certainly garnered impressive praise during his time at the London Stadium. “Bowen, he’s become an unbelievable player. We saw him at Hull and he was really good then, but I don’t think many people expected this jump. He’s an unbelievable player.”

When you look at the numbers, it’s hard to argue with Klopp’s decision. Bowen has led West Ham through a disappointing slump to incredible European heights.
He could now provide Newcastle with the ultimate solution to their attacking problems and provide an instant upgrade for Wissa this summer.
