Aston Villa are currently in the race to sign the “incredible” player, but Crystal Palace are determined to keep him and offers for a new contract are being considered.
Unai Emery’s side recently secured a return to the Champions League with a 4-2 home win over Liverpool, and Villa Park looks set to be an attractive destination in the summer transfer window.
The Villa manager praised his team and supporters after the match: “It’s great. This match was very important for us because our priority was the Premier League and achieving our first goal of being in the Champions League and currently in fourth place.”
“It was a tough game in the first half, but we did a great job in the second half. We are very grateful for the support of our fans and the atmosphere they create.”
“We’ve been in the Champions League, which is great. Four years here, four years in Europe. One year in the conference, two years in the Champions League, one year in the Europa League. And we’re in the final.”
The Villains will also have a chance at European glory as they are scheduled to face SC Freiburg in the Europa League final in Istanbul on May 20th.
It’s been quite the season, but Emery’s side are keen to add new players to their squad ahead of their return to Europe’s elite competition, with signing a new centre-back on the table.
Aston Villa enter race for Crystal Palace star
Aston Villa are currently in the race to sign Maxence Lacroix, as reported by TEAMtalk, but with Crystal Palace desperate to keep hold of the defender, it may be difficult to get a deal over the line.
In fact, the Eagles are preparing to offer him a new contract to avoid interest from other countries, with the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea also interested, as well as a number of clubs across Europe.
It is no surprise that Palace are keen to sign the Frenchman, given that he has made 34 appearances in the Premier League this season, is one of manager Oliver Glasner’s most important players and was highly rated by the Austrian in February.
Aston Villa are already well-stocked in the centre-back department, with Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres, Victor Lindelof and Tyron Mings to choose from, but Lacroix has a proven track record in the Premier League and could be an exciting addition to Emery’s side.
