  • Josep Guardiola resigns as Man City manager
  • Maresca has a history with Premier League teams.

Manchester City appear to be moving rapidly towards their future after Pep Guardiola, with Enzo Maresca now reportedly the favorite to become the club’s next manager.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Maresca has reached a verbal agreement with City and is expected to sign an initial three-year contract.

The Italian has long been seen within the club as Guardiola’s most natural successor due to his previous work within the City system and his clear links to Pep’s footballing mindset.

Manchester City have yet to officially announce Guardiola’s departure as manager, but major media reports suggest Guardiola is expected to step down at the end of the season after 10 years in charge.

Reuters reported that Guardiola is planning to leave the club after City’s final match, but also pointed out that Maresca is likely to be Guardiola’s successor.

Josep Guardiola resigns as Man City manager

This will be the biggest managerial change in Premier League history.

Guardiola not only won trophies with Manchester City, he completely rebuilt the club’s identity.

His teams became the standard for control, dominance, pressing and tactical detail in English football.

If he leaves after 10 years, it will be the end of one of the most successful chapters in league history.

The numbers say it all. Guardiola won 20 trophies with City, including six Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

The Guardian reports that City are preparing for the player’s possible departure and that Maresca is expected to replace him if the change is approved.

That’s no surprise, since Maresca is no outsider stepping into a completely unfamiliar environment.

Maresca has a history with Premier League teams.

He previously worked at Man City, managing the club’s elite development team and learning closely from Guardiola’s model.

That’s important because City don’t need a manager who’s going to ruin everything. They need someone who can add fresh energy while preserving the structure of the football world.

He also has senior management experience. Maresca won promotion with Leicester City and then managed Chelsea, dealing with the pressures of a major Premier League club.

His time at Chelsea has had its ups and downs, but it has given him valuable experience managing star players, dealing with media pressure and working in a demanding environment.

The reported three-year contract is also interesting. Maresca will be given enough time to build something, but not so much that City will be locked in if the transition becomes difficult.
