After an intense week at the PGA Championship, Aaron Rye emerged as a surprise major winner as the PGA Tour season began in Texas.
The annual Texas Two-Step after the PGA Championship begins with the CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch, with Scottie Scheffler leading the field as the favorite to win back-to-back titles. Last year, Scheffler lapped it up and won by eight spots, finishing the week with an impressive 31-under total and Byron Nelson’s first win. After a disappointing week at the PGA where he went from being co-leader in one round to finishing T14, returning to his home state of Texas will provide plenty of motivation.
Fellow Texas native Jordan Spieth will also be in the field this week, looking for his first PGA Tour win since 2022. Brooks Koepka is another headliner who has earned a spot in one of the final two marquee events of the season and continues to work hard to climb up the rankings to regain his spot as the best player on tour.
There are guaranteed to be fireworks this week and work will be slow for everyone on the ground. At the PGA Championship, where players are forced to play extremely conservative golf before getting the green light throughout the week, the winning score in each of the past seven years has been at least 23 under.
