Liverpool manager Richard Hughes has reportedly approached Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola about replacing Arne Slott.

The Reds have endured two difficult seasons under Slott, although the Dutch tactician did a great job winning the Premier League title last season.

Foot Mercato report that Hughes has started the process of bringing Iraola to Anfield as a replacement, and it appears the slot could be in jeopardy.

The claim is that Hughes “cautiously activated Reid”, possibly using his connections at his former club Bournemouth, to register his interest in Iraola.

It has already been confirmed that the Spanish tactician will leave the club when his contract expires, but it is a little surprising that a transfer has not yet been decided.

Andoni Iraola is ideal as Liverpool’s next manager

Iraola has done a great job with the Cherries, leading them to Europe for the first time, but there is still a chance he could even play in next season’s Champions League if he gets results on the final day of the Premier League this weekend.

Still, Chelsea and Manchester United have recently officially announced the appointment of Xabi Alonso and Michael Carrick, respectively, despite their need for new managers.

Iraola could definitely have been a great appointment for these clubs and also looks like the ideal option to give LFC an upgrade in the slot.

Of course, football is unpredictable, but unless Iraola finds great success at a bigger club, it’s hard to predict his future.

Even if it’s not Iraola, Liverpool certainly need to think seriously about making a change this summer after experiencing a dramatic drop in form in Slot’s second season.
