  • Andy Robertson reflects on Pep Guardiola’s crushing of Liverpool in the Premier League race
    • Seamus Coleman also praises emotional farewell at Anfield
  • Robertson leaves Liverpool with nine trophies after nine years at the club

Andy Robertson bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool fans on the final day of the season, paying tribute to outgoing players Pep Guardiola and Seamus Coleman on a memorable night at Anfield.

The Scotland international will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract after nine years and 377 appearances, bringing an end to a hugely successful spell at the club.

The 31-year-old featured in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Sunday, which was part of the Premier League’s final day of celebrations, but also marked a personal farewell for the long-serving left-back.

In the post-match interview, sky sportsRobertson also highlighted two key figures leaving the club, with particular praise for Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola.

“For me, there are two other people who are leaving the club today and they are very important,” Robertson said.

“Posep Guardiola has pushed us to a whole new limit. I think we both agree on that. He has pushed us to a whole new limit. We could have won more Premier League titles without him. What a great servant to Manchester City. We wish him all the best.”

Robertson’s comments underline the fierce and respectful rivalry between Liverpool and Guardiola’s Manchester City during one of the most competitive eras in Premier League history.

During Guardiola’s reign, Liverpool twice came agonizingly close to Premier League glory.

They earned 97 points in the 2018-19 season, but still finished in second place, one point behind City.

Three years later, in the 2021-22 season, Liverpool again pushed City to the final day, but narrowly missed out on the title.

Seamus Coleman also praises emotional farewell at Anfield

Robertson also paid tribute to Everton captain Seamus Coleman, who has also stepped away from top-flight football after a long and respected career.

The Everton defender is one of the Premier League’s most loyal servants and Robertson acknowledged his contribution on a number of emotional nights away from English football.

Robertson leaves Liverpool with nine trophies after nine years at the club

Robertson leaves Anfield as one of Liverpool’s most successful modern-day stars, having won nine major titles with Mohamed Salah, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Although his achievements are firmly established at Liverpool, the era defined by Josep Guardiola’s Manchester City often stood in the way of further success for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Still, Robertson leaves as a key figure during one of the most competitive and memorable periods in Premier League history.
