Things are looking up for Manchester United under manager Michael Carrick, who have clarity, confidence and direction.
It will be understood that INEOS were hesitant to appoint the 44-year-old despite his incredible efforts over the past few months. A similar story emerged when Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, also a former Red Devil player, was handed the keys and finally got the boot after a grueling interim stint.
But things are different now. There was unity and quality at Old Trafford and Carrick’s side were set to finish third in the Premier League after suffering a major setback under manager Ruben Amorim.
However, effective reinforcements are key, and with Casemiro leaving, it feels like midfield reinforcements are in order for the Red Devils today.
Manchester United move to sign new midfielder
Manchester United are closing in on Atalanta’s Ederson, giving them a head start on the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian will replace his outgoing compatriot at the Theater of Dreams. An excellent duelist and a confident distributor who resists the press, his older counterpart may not have had the same success.
But United need a further profile to complement Ederson. Koby Mainu’s recent inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions squad for the World Cup was a sign of his resurgence, but United have lined up ball-playing midfielders to add further dimension.
Certainly Alex Scott will be disappointed to be left out. However, according to TEAMtalk, this has not stopped Manchester United from wanting to sign the Bournemouth midfielder this summer and preparing to make a bid following internal discussions.
Scott is under contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2028, but there is talk that the Cherries want to sign him to a new deal. However, to put United in a favorable position, he would consider a move to a Champions League club.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in the England international, who is valued at £60m.
Why Scott is better than Maynou at Manchester United
Scott is only 22 but has already established himself as one of the country’s most exciting midfield talents, with former Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson saying he is “destined to be at the top” in 2023.
Scott is the real deal, athletic and capable as a ball carrier, while also boasting natural technique with the ball, being able to identify his teammates and often getting around to the edge of the defense to break the line.
He will be something of a rival to Maynou at Old Trafford, which could help both players realize their potential. Nevertheless, even if the United man gets the nod ahead of the World Cup, the Scot would probably outperform Maynou at the moment.

A more active and combative duelist, covering a lot of ground when fighting to win the ball back, Scott brings balance and concentration to the midfield, and in that regard has been a fundamental part of Andoni Iraola’s high-flying system, charging with intensity.
It’s the kind of skill set that Man United fans have been treated to at Minoo over the past few years, but the Scot has surpassed it and continues to improve.
If the situation were reversed and it was Scott who offered to trade for England’s elite player, he would likely be on the plane this summer.
Alas, Mainu has made his mark on the international stage and has been instrumental in Carrick’s team’s resurgence. However, Man United are in a promising position and signing Scott would take them even closer to a return to title-winning heights.
