Manchester United close to signing Ederson dos Santos
The 26-year-old Brazilian has emerged as United’s main target to anchor their midfield under manager Michael Carrick.
According to a report in the Mirror, the Red Devils are close to agreeing a contract with the midfielder who will replace Casemiro, who left Old Trafford at the end of the 25/26 season.
United’s recruitment team, led by director of football Jason Wilcox, moved quickly to surpass the interest of rivals Atletico Madrid with a huge contract offer worth around €4.5 million a year.
Atalanta initially valued Ederson highly, but now that Ederson has entered the final year of his contract, United have moved closer to a deal expected to rise to around £38m.
The Europa League winner has spent four seasons in Serie A establishing a solid style and it is expected that personal conditions will not be an obstacle as he prepares for a move to the Premier League.

Ederson Dos Santos Career Statistics (via Transfermarkt)
Man United are expected to overhaul their midfield this summer.
Ederson’s aggressive pursuit stems from a clear vacancy at the bottom of the club’s midfield hierarchy.
Legendary midfielder Casemiro bowed out as a hero after a string of resurgent performances under Carrick and officially left the club at the end of the season.
With Casemiro gone and Man United also looking to offload Manuel Ugarte, Carrick is determined to inject energetic, pressing steel into his starting line-up ahead of a return to the demanding UEFA Champions League.
The midfield is expected to be centered around Koby Mainu, who has established himself as a first-team player under manager Michael Carrick.
According to reports, the club is considering signing at least two midfielders, with Ederson unlikely to be the club’s only midfield signing this summer.
United are actively monitoring Brighton’s Carlos Baleva and West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes.
Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Choamenyi and Nottingham Forest star Elliott Anderson have also been linked.
