Manchester United have a “clear plan” and will not allow market forces or agents to dictate their summer transfer plans, CEO Omar Berada has said.
Berrada is confident the club can build on the success of last year’s recruitment drive, which saw the signings of Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Ramens.
United are said to have already agreed a deal with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson for a fee of £35 million, and further reinforcements are expected.
Berrada said on the Inside Carrington podcast:
“We have a clear plan. I think what we saw last season is a good step forward for us. So we want a combination of experience and youth, we want a combination of players who have proven they can perform in the Premier League and maybe players who have been active outside the Premier League.”
“But we always do it within our own terms and ensure that the decisions we make are long-term and not just short-term.
“We have to be really disciplined. It’s simple. We know what we can invest in and we have to stick to it.”
“It’s very important that we don’t let the market or the agencies dictate what we should do.”
Last month, United confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as permanent head coach.
The 44-year-old has performed well since taking over as caretaker manager following the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January, securing third place in the Premier League and Champions League qualification.

United want to add a number of reinforcements to their midfield.
“I think he has earned the right to continue leading the team for the next two-plus years,” Berrada said.
“I would describe him as a very level-headed but very motivated person and I am confident that he and the entire staff will do everything they can to help the team be successful next season and the year after.
“Looking at the team and what we are trying to do over the next two years, I think he brings the right attributes, the right elements, character and understanding of the club to help us navigate the next steps in our journey.”
Manchester United ‘very interested’ in Elliott Anderson
United have already agreed their first signing of the summer, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson set to join to strengthen Carrick’s options in the middle of the park.
But the Red Devils have not stopped there, with the Red Devils hinting they could bring in up to three new midfielders following Casemiro’s departure, with Fabrizio Romano admitting they are still “very interested” in Nottingham Forest star Elliott Anderson.
The reporter said in his latest Youtube video that rivals Manchester City have launched an initial bid for the 23-year-old, but Forest have rejected the offer and plan to demand a fee in excess of £100m.
This could also lead to a swoop for United, as Romano has made it clear that they are still monitoring developments and have not given up on the possibility of taking over City’s interest.
Anderson has played in 38 Premier League games this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists, and is expected to star for England at this summer’s World Cup.
