  • Jordan Spieth explains why Memorial Tournament feels like a major

Jordan Spieth hasn’t been this good in years.

He has yet to string four rounds together this season, but every area of his game looked incredible at one point.

Spieth said before the season that he feels healthier than he’s felt in a long time, and it’s clear from the confidence he’s swinging the club.

The American was left out of Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup squad but spoke to new captain Jim Furyk about where he thinks his game is at this midway point in the season.

Jordan Spieth told Jim Furyk: ‘I feel good about my game’

Furyk, the 2027 US Ryder Cup captain, caught up with Spieth at Muirfield Village ahead of the Memorial Tournament. When asked how he felt about the game at the moment, Spieth had a really encouraging answer.

“Everything’s fine. Every part of my game at one point was as good as it’s been so far this year. And I just had to put it all together,” Spieth said on the PGA Tour’s social media.

“I’m trying to stay a little bit in front of the fade, working on my shot delivery like I hit it right there.

“I’m lining up on the left when I’m trying to pin on the right. Keep your hands nice and low so you don’t give in to them because you’re doing so well.”

It sounds like Spieth is fine-tuning his game instead of exploring himself like he has the past few seasons. That’s a great sign. I feel like he’s so close.

Jordan Spieth explains why Memorial Tournament feels like a major

The Memorial Tournament is one of the premier events on the PGA Tour calendar. Held at the Jack House, this event brings together the best players from around the world to pay homage to the great Jack Nicklaus, making this event feel truly important.

And because Muirfield Village is always kept in pristine condition and the course is so challenging, the event has a major championship feel, Spieth said.

He told Furyk:

“I didn’t hit more than five putts in the same spot because I felt so bad. It was the best putting surface I’ve ever seen in my life.

“We knew we had an incredible facility here, so we’re going to bring the whole family here, take a little bit of time to get settled in, and then we’re going to tackle it honestly like it’s the majors, because we’re going to play like the majors. It’s the closest we’ll get to the majors.”

Muirfield Village has been maintained in a manner befitting Nicklaus’ legacy, and feels like the perfect test for players to prepare for the upcoming U.S. Open.
