  • Tottenham enter race to sign Sandro Tonali
  • Could Spurs hijack a deal with Arsenal?

Tottenham are planning a bold move to sign Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali this summer.

After a turbulent season in which Spurs narrowly secured a place in the Premier League on the final day, club leaders are determined to back head coach Roberto De Zerbi with a major overhaul of the squad.

Having already secured the high-profile signings of former Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi, the Lilywhites have set their sights on a coveted Italian midfielder to spearhead a new era.

Tottenham enter race to sign Sandro Tonali

Tottenham have officially entered the high-stakes battle to sign Tonali, according to a sensational and exclusive update from X’s transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

De Zerbi reportedly sees the former AC Milan dynamo as the absolute “star” needed to transform the midfield layout and immediately raise the club’s technical and physical level.

However, Romano added that securing Italy players will be a big challenge. Spurs are set to go head-to-head with Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City, who have already shown strong interest.

An Italian journalist posted the following update about X:

“Exclusive: Tottenham have entered the race to sign Sandro Tonali! De Zerbi wants Tonali as the new star of midfield and ideal to raise the level of #THFC. Spurs are ready to take on Man City and Arsenal in the race for Tonali with a new ambitious project to prove their intentions.”

Manchester United are reportedly worried that Newcastle’s £100m valuation will make them unable to negotiate, but Tottenham’s decision to join the club shows their ambition under manager De Zerbi.

Could Spurs hijack a deal with Arsenal?

Tottenham’s unexpected arrival has thrown Arsenal’s transfer plans into turmoil.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already begun making contact with those close to Tonali, seeing him as the ideal box-to-box midfielder to complement Declan Rice.

Whether Spurs can successfully hijack the Gunners’ contract will depend on guaranteed game time and project alignment.

Unlike Arsenal, where Tonali would face stiff rotation competition from their existing stars, Tottenham could certainly offer the midfielder a central role at the heart of De Zerbi’s tactical rebuild.

Newcastle’s failure to qualify for European football has left them vulnerable to bids from higher up the tier, and if Tottenham can match the huge funding required, De Zerbi could well pull off one of the most surprising transfer hijackings of the summer window.
