Newcastle United have been exploring alternatives to a move for Victor Munoz as Liverpool are believed to have won the race for the Osasna winger.
Our sources have confirmed that the Magpies have entered advanced negotiations to sign Munoz, but while there was some hesitation about meeting the 22-year-old’s release clause, Liverpool were willing to pay the signing fee and moved quickly to terminate his contract.

Newcastle have had other options in mind for some time, with Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Cody Gakpo all understood to have been discussed.
As reported recently, Tottenham are interested in Gakpo and could make a move to sign him, but Newcastle are also in a slump and Munoz’s impact could accelerate their interest.
Questions about Newcastle and Arsenal duo
Some sources have also suggested to me that conversations are already taking place between Newcastle and Arsenal for information regarding the possible signings of Trossard and Martinelli.
As we reported last week, we have heard that NUFC have been directly informed that Trossard is in talks to join Besiktas, so a deal seems unlikely at this point.
However, with Martinelli also available, Newcastle were keen to gather information on how much the Brazilian would cost.

A source said: “Newcastle have been exploring other options. They haven’t put all their eggs in Muñoz’s basket.”
“They have approached Arsenal about Trossard and Martinelli. They also like Kodi Gakpo, but the current feeling is that Martinelli could be cheaper.”
“Nothing has happened yet and Newcastle are not going to rush this. They were not completely convinced that they would meet Muñoz’s release clause and will wait until they find a deal that they are completely confident will give them good value for money and strengthen their team.”
Nick Waltemaide’s future at Newcastle is in doubt
Newcastle are interested in a winger following the departure of Anthony Gordon, while Nick Waltemaide could also leave St James’ Park.
As we reported earlier today, Voltemade has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa.
The Germany international has struggled to establish himself under manager Eddie Howe and the club may be prepared to sanction his sale after just one season.
Even if that doesn’t happen, Newcastle’s plan is to make another change to their front line this summer after Woltemade and Yoan Wissa failed to adequately replace Alexander Isak following his move to Liverpool.
