The only way forward for Tottenham Hotspur next season is if the ENIC regime remains idle to avoid a repeat of the disastrous events of the past two years at Premier League level.
Daniel Levy may be reported as a critic from afar, but it’s hard to argue with the signings of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke for a total of around £52 million.
No matter how you look at it, it’s just the beginning of a summer of turmoil for new manager Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian has used 49 different players in just 69 games since returning to Marseille and is used to managing one new manager after another.
However, their moves so far have had one thing in common: Premier League experience, and further deals appear to be in the works in that regard.
Spurs begin inter-club negotiations to sign Premier League star
The big story at the moment remains Tottenham’s surprise move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, but that signing could hit a snag as Manchester City are in the race to sign the Italian star.
Speaking of City, the Lilywhites are said to still be in talks with the Etihad over a move for Brazilian winger Sabinho, with the former Girona player first being identified as a target a year ago.
He moved to Manchester in the summer of 2024 for a fee of nearly £30 million, and it has been suggested that there is a good chance he could be acquired for a fee of around £60 million.
Strengthening the side appears to be a top priority for ENIC ahead of next term, with TEAMtalk also reporting that the north London side have made their first move to sign West Ham United star Crisencio Somerville.
Spurs are already in club-to-club talks with the Hammers and could be in contention with Manchester United for the Dutchman, according to reports.
It has been suggested that the former Leeds United man could be available for £50m, with a move also on the cards following the east London side’s recent relegation.
Comparison of Somerville and Savinho in 2025/26
Injuries were undoubtedly a significant problem as the season dragged on in N17, but with Son Heung-min departing for Los Angeles and Brennan Johnson released to Crystal Palace in January, the Lilywhites looked a little short on strength in the wings.
With Mohamed Kudus and Wilson Odbert out, as well as Dejan Kulusevski, De Zerbi was forced to stick with Matthijs Tell and Randall Kolo Muani on the flanks, with Pedro Polo occasionally playing a more advanced role on the right.
Kolo Muani finished the season with just the only goal in the league, while Ter only scored four goals, highlighting the need for a major upgrade.

Whether Sabinho will actually achieve that is debatable, but the South American speedster had a dismal performance in the Premier League in 2025/26, scoring and assisting just two goals and making just seven starts.
The left-footed player failed to create any particularly big chances last season, but this has decreased significantly in 2024/25, when he provided eight assists and created 11 big chances for Josep Guardiola’s side.
He has never been an in-form player, but Somerville, by contrast, scored all five of his league goals last season and looks to be enjoying a strong 2026.
The 24-year-old was a bright spot in what has been a tough season at the London Stadium, boasting a total of seven goals and assists in the top flight and creating four ‘big chances’.
He has also proven to be far better than Sabinho in terms of key passes per game (0.9 vs. 0.4) and successful dribbles (1.6 vs. 0.7), proving just how astute a player he is.
Indeed, there is a game-changing, match-winning quality to Somerville’s game, and he deserves praise for his explosive and direct play on either wing, as he did most recently for his country.
As the Netherlands ended in a 2-2 draw with Japan at the weekend, the right-footed player cut into his weaker left foot and scored a stunning goal into the far corner.
It was a reminder of a player who also had a brilliant spell in the Championship in 2023/24, scoring 28 goals and assisting for Leeds that season before sealing a move to the capital.
If Spurs and De Zerbi get there, a new move in London could be considered, with Somerville likely to be a priority before signing Sabinho.
