PGA Travelers Championship odds: Will Tour’s long international win drought end?

The final signature event on the 2026 PGA Tour schedule is Thursday’s Travelers Championship outside Hartford, Connecticut. The event is a limited field event with a $20 million purse and is about a four-hour drive from New York’s Sinek Hills, the site of last week’s U.S. Open, so the field is very strong.

But the first thing I would like to note is that no international player has won this tournament since Scotland’s Russell Knox in 2016. This is the longest such drought among active events on the PGA Tour.

The outcome was clear on Sunday, even if world No. 2 Rory McIlroy chose to sit out this week – he is one of only two players in the world’s top 10 not playing, along with Spain’s No. 10 Jon Rahm, who is of course in LIV. Seven overseas players have won on tour this season, with McIlroy winning back-to-back at the Masters in April and England’s Aaron Rye winning his first major at the PGA Championship in May, winning the first two majors of the year.

American Windham Clark stopped it last Sunday at the US Open, but will be a +3300 long shot to qualify this week. Clark is definitely on a roll with that win, third place in T-11, and a win in Byron Nelson’s last four overall starts in the CJ Cup. This will be Clark’s eighth consecutive start and ninth overall in this tournament, with his best finish being T-9 in 2024.

The American is a -230 favorite to win (+270 if not), and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the overall leader at +445. There are no other people below +1500. Scheffler is still aiming for his first victory at this year’s Tour. He beat the Travelers in the playoffs in 2024 and has finished in the top six for three straight years at TPC River Highlands. His career scoring average of 68.86 in this tournament is the highest ever. BetMGM has been exposed in a big way about Scheffler as he leads by a wide margin in wins with highest handles (23.0%) and tickets (16.3%).

The shortest odds to win for a non-American player are Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg at +1700, followed by England’s Tommy Fleetwood at +1800. Aberg did not participate in this tournament, but Fleetwood finished runner-up last year by one stroke behind Keegan Bradley. Fleetwood, who was in the lead after 54 holes, redeemed himself by going 2 over on the final three holes.

It’s +270 if the European winner gets it, -370 if no. Fleetwood is trying to become only the second player to win a tournament this season, following Gary Woodland at the Houston Open, who finished runner-up in the same event last year. Fleetwood ranks in the top five on tour in fairway hits and scrambles. BetMGM has Fleetwood the third most tickets at 5.4%, giving him a bit of exposure.

TPC River Highlands is a 6,844 yard par 70 and one of the easiest and shortest tracks on tour. Jim Fuerke hit the only 58 shot on tour here in 2016. To win, he needs to reach double digits under par. A total of five past champions teed up, and 61 of the 72 U.S. Open players participated, including five of the top six players.
