Last night brought news that one of the Premier League’s biggest and most anticipated deals of the summer had been completed. Manchester City have agreed a transfer fee of £116 million to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
Gundogan backs Anderson to succeed at City
He’s a great player, but the amount is huge. Former Manchester City defender Ilkay Gundogan, who Elliott is trying to emulate, was asked by ESPN for his thoughts on the player:
“I think he proved that he can (succeed), especially last season at Nottingham (Forest). He had a great season. He also had a great performance against City,” Gundogan said in words picked up by ESPN.
“I think he has developed very impressively over the years and I am sure he will be a great addition to City’s squad.
“I’m sure the people of Manchester will be very happy because when you watch him play, you feel like he’s a player who sacrifices everything for the team. That’s what you want in a team-mate.”
It’s always difficult to match such a high fee, but if Andersson can be half as successful as Gundogan, he will have achieved a huge success. But first of all he has to worry about the World Cup with England.
In other news…
Barcelona are considering selling the player they signed just a year ago for a huge profit.
Once the tournament is over, teams will be in full swing to pursue one of the young stars rising to the World Cup.
