        • Exclusive: Former Rangers star backs McInnes to bring ‘special’ wonderkid to Ibrox

It has been a tumultuous summer at Ibrox so far. Rangers wasted no time getting things started with the addition of Lawrence Shankland, and then brought in Hearts manager Derek McInnes to accompany the Tynecastle captain.

Since then, the new manager has also welcomed his first signing in the form of Ross McCrory. The right-back arrives in a full-circle moment to replace former Glasgow young star James Tavernier.

The defender immediately expressed his joy after completing his return, telling the Rangers website: “I really enjoyed my time in England and it was a great top flight, but the only way I could get back to Scotland was to go to Rangers.

“It’s a dream come true to get this opportunity, and I’m really itching to move on. At the time, I had to leave the team. For me, it was part of my growth. I got to play on the team and experience something new to grow as a player and as a person. It was a great experience and a great learning curve.”

McInnes also welcomed the new additions as follows: “Ross is a player I signed for Aberdeen from Rangers and at the time he wanted to go out and prove himself and I think that says a lot for him.

“He has grown and improved as a player, gained more experience and is now a full international player and knows the club inside and out.”

McCrorie is set to be a fantastic signing, with further additions expected at Ibrox before the end of the summer, but the star player could face his first piece of bad news this summer.

Real Betis make offer for Rangers star

As reported by Spanish outlet ElDesmarque and relayed by Ibrox News, Real Betis are currently preparing to make a contract offer for Nicola Raskin this summer, having cleared their squad in a bid to raise funds for the Belgian.

It’s bad news for Rangers, as manager Manuel Pellegrini has already given his approval.

Ibrox insiders now believe Mr Ruskin’s departure is very likely, despite his initial reluctance to cash in.

The midfielder’s departure will be a big blow for McInnes. He will lose one of his best players, who has received many accolades in recent years, before even stepping into the technical area.

However, every player has a price and the Gers are likely to benefit if Real Betis or other potential suitors can reach the reported £20m valuation.

Why Rangers should sell Raskin

No one can deny Ruskin’s qualities. On a technical level, he is one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership. But will that be enough for the Rangers to opt out of cashing in?

The Belgians are not at the level needed to build around them. Rather, he is someone who could move on to funding other areas in a bittersweet moment for the Gers.

With £20m ready, the 49ers could back MacInnes fully and ultimately turn Rangers into a club ready to usurp Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership. It’s a significant sacrifice, but it should ultimately happen this summer.
