  • Rashford’s return could change summer plans
  • This could be a wise move by Man United

Manchester United could be headed for an unexpected reset with Marcus Rashford after new negotiations between the club and the forward’s camp.

Fabrizio Romano says United have been in direct contact with Rashford’s agent and discussions have been amicable.

The 28-year-old is open to returning in pre-season under manager Michael Carrick and the club are ready to have him back in training.

This does not guarantee Rashford will remain at Old Trafford. United are expected to continue to consider a suitable bid, but the mood around the situation appears to have softened.

This is important. That’s because, until recently, it was expected that Rashford’s United career would come to an end for good after his loan spell with the club.

Rashford’s return could change summer plans

This development gives Man United much-needed flexibility.

At the beginning of the summer, the club appeared to be seeking clarity, especially after Barcelona decided not to proceed with a permanent deal.

CaughtOffside report that United are not planning a new loan deal, meaning a permanent sale or reintegration appears to be the main options.

Now, Carrick may have the opportunity to properly assess Rashford in pre-season.

It may be beneficial for both parties. United still need attacking quality and Rashford remains a player with pace, experience and strong links with the club.

For Rashford, this is a chance to mend ties and show he can still be an important part of United’s new project.

This could be a wise move by Man United

This is the right approach for United.

Even if Rashford is ultimately sold, it makes sense to rebuild trust first. A player who comes back in a positive mood is far more valuable than one who freezes or gets pushed aside.

Carrick should use the preseason to judge him fairly. If Rashford looks motivated, sharp and ready to compete, United may still have a player who can help them. If not, a sale may still occur later.

The important point was that United were in control again. Instead of forcing a hasty exit, they could leave the door open, protect the player’s value and see if one of their most talented academy graduates still has a future at Old Trafford.
