Celtic are currently pursuing a move with Borussia Dortmund forward Cole Campbell as their ‘obvious’ target.
Martin O’Neill’s side have strengthened their search for a new right-winger, with Motherwell star Elijah Just also among their targets, as well as the 47-capped New Zealand international who has scored three goals in as many World Cup games.
Campbell, who is eligible to play for both the USA and Iceland national teams, is still inexperienced at just 20 years old, having only made seven first-team appearances for Borussia Dortmund before being loaned to Hoffenheim last season.
The Texas-born winger is yet to establish himself at first-team level, making just five appearances for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, but the Hoops are now looking to offer him a path to senior football.

|---|---|
reliability | Celtic are keen to strengthen their attacking options and are in a good position to sign Just, who scored 15 goals in last season’s Scottish Premiership. In truth, the Motherwell star may be able to make a more immediate impact, but given Campbell’s limited experience, that could be the case in the future. |
finances | Despite his underachievement so far in Dortmund, the German team are still planning on making a run for £6m. As a result, the Hoops are considering making their first loan move. |
insight | Although the youngster is yet to make his mark in senior football, he did shine for Dortmund at youth level, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists in 35 appearances for the Under-19s. Scout Jacek Kulig hailed the American as a “flamboyant” winger, but also praised his speed and dribbling skills. |
impact | If Celtic decide to make a move, they may have to shelve plans to sign Just, but that could be a mistake given the New Zealander has already proven himself in the Scottish Premiership. |
Celtic are working on signing Cole Campbell
According to a report from Football Insider, Celtic are currently considering taking Camppell on loan as they are unwilling to pay Dortmund’s asking price of £6m.
The Bundesliga giants are very positive about his departure and would be happy with a permanent contract or loan, suggesting a move to Parkhead is possible.
Elijah Just should be Celtic’s top right wing target
Campbell had a tough time last season on loan at Hoffenheim, playing just 74 minutes in five Bundesliga games, failing to score a goal or assist.
Meanwhile, Just proved himself on the biggest stage of all, scoring twice in New Zealand’s 2-2 World Cup win over Iran in their opening game, and then scoring in their 5-1 defeat against Belgium.
What’s more, the 26-year-old has already proven himself in the Scottish Premiership, with seven assists last season, more than any other Celtic player apart from Kieran Tierney.
With that in mind, the Motherwell winger should be Celtic’s top target and Campbell would be a far riskier addition to O’Neill’s squad.
