Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has agreed to join Juventus this summer to replace Emi Martinez, meaning the World Cup-winning goalkeeper will remain at Aston Villa.

Antonin Kinski has signed a new contract with Tottenham in a remarkable turnaround after a nightmare spell at Atletico Madrid in March.

The 23-year-old has agreed a five-year contract following his impressive performance in the 1-1 draw at home to Leeds and an important clean sheet in the final game against Everton.

We revealed this week that Kinski is set to become Roberto De Zerbi’s permanent number one, and that Vicario is set to leave Tottenham this summer following the arrival of Martin Dubravka as a substitute for the Czech Republic.

Football Fancast Verdict

reliability

Despite his disastrous debut in the Champions League, Vicario’s days at Tottenham looked like they would be numbered after he was dropped by Igor Tudor for Kinski. Dubravka joins as experienced support and Vicario’s departure is inevitable as he struggles with the physicality of Premier League set-pieces.

finances

Spurs are expected to ask for £20m this summer to ensure they don’t make a loss on signing the Italian, but this comes at a time when the club are looking to rebuild their squad while getting through the last few years of PSR guidelines until the new SCR model comes into play.

insight

Vicario has been criticized for his “flutter” behavior at set pieces. At one point last season, he was booed by Tottenham supporters and the Premier League had to apologize for posting mocking of his kicks on social media channels.

impact

The Spurs goalkeeper’s move to Juventus means there is no longer any interest in Emi Martinez, who has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa for the past 12 months.

Juventus agree £100,000-a-week contract with Vicario

Football FanCast understands that Juventus have given up on Martínez after indications he wants to remain in the Premier League and are instead focusing on Vicario, whose move to Italy fell through after Inter Milan were unable to reach an agreement with Tottenham.

Vicario’s entourage has been in active negotiations with the Turin side over salary terms and has agreed a significant rise to €120,000 (about £100,000) a week, but the club still need to agree on remuneration.

The 29-year-old earns £75,000 a week in north London, placing him among the club’s highest earners.

Vicario was doomed from the beginning.

It’s easy to see why goalkeepers aren’t used to English football, but once they start being criticized by fans, the press and social media, it’s hard to recover.

Jamie Carragher spoke freely about Vicario after Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai scored in March.

“He’s a specialist, but I’ll tell you, Tottenham don’t have a goalkeeping specialist. It’s not far from the center of the goal, so you have to save there. Wow, that’s terrible, it’s a total shock for the goalkeeper.”

“They (Kinski) played in midweek because he wasn’t good enough. That was the case. But Tottenham have big problems with goals.” (March 2026)

Former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara also lashed out at the former Empoli man, who appeared to blame the defenders for conceding a goal against Monaco last October.

“Every time a cross goes into the box, it falls off the cross and into the net.”

As for Villa, reliable goalkeepers don’t grow on trees, so it’s clearly the right decision to stick with Martinez, who is 33 years old and has little sell value, despite all the praise he’s received in recent years.
