Manchester United’s summer transfer window hasn’t gone as planned so far.

The pursuit of Elliott Anderson ended before it began due to Nottingham Forest’s huge price tag, links with Sandro Tonali departed and Tottenham appear to have won that race, although Spurs have already announced INEOS’ other target, Matheus Fernandes.

The Red Devils still have a lot of work to do after agreeing a deal with Atalanta’s Ederson, and that work could start at left-back.

Luke Shaw did well last campaign, but he is not getting any younger and with the departure of Tyrell Malasia the position will need a rival, leaving the door ajar for Lewis Hall.

Ben Jacobs has provided an update on reports that he is unhappy with Newcastle United, who have already lost two key players this summer.

Football Fancast Verdict

reliability

Jacobs has yet to claim contact with Man United and Newcastle, but Hall’s own misfortunes certainly strengthen the possibility of a move. The exit door is firmly open at St James’ Park this summer and the Red Devils could swoop in.

finances

In terms of valuation, Hall’s current starting point is around £45m. Newcastle could increase that amount if Man United come knocking out, as was the case with Tonali and Spurs just before.

insight

It is a testament to the left-back’s ability that almost everyone was shocked that he did not feature for England at this summer’s World Cup. He is one of the best players in his position in the Premier League and even silenced Lamine Yamal at St James’ Park last season.

impact

Newcastle have already lost two stars and will definitely want to avoid a third defeat. However, if Hall were to force his way out, Man United may have no choice but to hand over the advantage.

Hall would be a great addition at Old Trafford, but there is still a lot of work to be done before that can happen.

Manchester United planning to sign Lewis Hall

According to Jacobs, Man United are currently planning a move for Hall and the player could hold “meetings” with Newcastle’s leaders this summer, where he could request to leave the club.

He is expected to speak about his frustration at being left out by Dan Byrne, and the Magpies hope the situation resolves rather than escalates.

“I stand by my information on Lewis Hall. Despite suggestions that he is not a Man United target, my information says he is.

“There will be talks between Hall and Eddie Howe and that could result in a new contract being worked out or the player may say he wants a chance and if that happens Man United will be there, in my opinion.”

Jacobs added: “Hall wasn’t unhappy with Newcastle during the season, he was unhappy with the way the season ended, particularly in terms of missing out on European football and losing his place to Dan Byrne.”

Manchester United must commit to signing Lewis Hall

There is no better left-back option in the Premier League than Hall in terms of quality and age. He is only 21 years old, already has Champions League experience and could solve Man United’s left-back problem for the next 10 years.

Newcastle’s final offer price could complicate things, but history suggests they will be forced to sell if the defender himself forces his way out. The big question remains whether Manchester United can make the most of that advantage.
