Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window could not be any different if they try. The Midlands side are yet to welcome their first signing of the summer, but the Lilywhites have made statement signing after statement.
The two teams are now set to go head-to-head in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s young star Ibrahim Mbaye. The 18-year-old is quickly becoming a player to watch as Villa look to start their business and Spurs look to expand.

|---|---|
reliability | PSG appear prepared to sell Mbaye this summer for a bargain price worth just £30 million, which would no doubt be attractive to Tottenham and Aston Villa. Both clubs are currently preparing offers to secure his contract. |
finances | The Premier League duo are not completely satisfied with PSG’s offer. Both players are expected to submit offers worth between £21m and £9m short of PSG’s valuation. However, that is to be expected with an opening bid. |
insight | You would be hard-pressed to find another 18-year-old in world football who has already won the Champions League twice. Mbaye has already won back-to-back titles and was active in Europe last season, appearing in four games as a tricky and exciting winger. |
impact | It’s a chance for whoever wins the race to make a statement. Mbaye is one of the best young players in Europe and his departure could also help PSG fund a move to sign Liverpool target Yann Diomande. |
Mbaye would be a great addition to the Premier League, but it remains to be seen whether Spurs, Villa or another team will win the race to sign him.
Spurs and Aston Villa ready to make offers for Mbaye
According to United in Focus, Aston Villa and Tottenham are preparing offers to sign Mbaye from PSG this summer. The French giants are prepared to green light an offer worth €35m (£30m), but the aforementioned bid has been set at just €25m (£21m).
The big question is whether there is a middle ground. Of course, Aston Villa and Spurs are aiming to negotiate with the European champions, so it’s understandable that there would be a difference in valuation in the initial offers.
It also remains to be seen whether Mbaye would like to move, as he could be headed for an exit to France.
Mbae would be a bargain replacement for Leo for Spurs
Of course, it’s worth noting that Mbaye isn’t the only winger to attract Tottenham’s attention. They also have their sights set on AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, and have already begun negotiations over a deal that could cost more than £50m.
But that doesn’t rule out Mbae’s possibility. The PSG man will be much cheaper and have more potential than the Portugal international, who struggled to find his best form in Italy last season.
Described as “fantastic” by scout Jacek Kulig, Mbaye could quickly become the attacking star Spurs were looking for to add to their already excellent summer.
