Ben Jacobs shares latest update on Mason Greenwood’s move to Fenerbahce
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Greenwood is close to joining Fenerbahce in a deal worth around €45m (about £38.9m).
The Turkish giants have accelerated negotiations with Marseille and are now in the lead in the race to sign the former Manchester United forward, despite interest from several European clubs including Tottenham and Roma.
Jacobs reports that personal terms have already been agreed and Greenwood will sign a lucrative four-year deal in Istanbul.
How much money will Manchester United receive for Mason Greenwood?
If the transfer goes through as expected, Manchester United will receive around 5 million euros (approximately 430 million yen).
When United sold Greenwood to Marseille in 2025 for £26.5m, they negotiated a sell-on clause worth nearly 50% of his future sale proceeds.
Fenerbahce’s offer of 45 million euros is significantly higher than Marseille’s original purchase price, so United will be entitled to a significant portion of the proceeds from the transfer.
The windfall will give the club more flexibility in its summer budget as manager Michael Carrick continues to restructure his squad ahead of the new season.
Why Mason Greenwood’s move still benefits Manchester United
Greenwood’s impending move to Turkey marks another major turning point in a career that once seemed destined for superstardom at Old Trafford.
The forward is widely regarded as one of the most naturally talented academy graduates to emerge for Manchester United in recent years, with first-class decision-making ability and the versatility to play up front.

However, following his arrest and suspension in early 2022, the trajectory of his career changed dramatically.
Criminal charges against Greenwood were later dropped, but extensive public scrutiny and internal reviews made a return to Manchester United increasingly unlikely.
Having rebuilt his career during a loan spell at Getafe before securing a permanent move to Marseille, Greenwood looks ready to embark on a new chapter at Fenerbahce.
For Manchester United, the deal represents smart long-term business, allowing the club to benefit financially from a player who is no longer in their sporting plans.
