England captain Harry Kane has admitted he played golf with US President Donald Trump in Palm Beach 18 months ago, calling it “a pretty surreal experience”.
President Trump praised Cain earlier this week, telling reporters, “I think Kain is a great player. I played golf with him and I really like him. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great.”
Kane also revealed that David Beckham spoke to the England international at Inter Miami’s facilities ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway.

President Trump divulged the story earlier this week when he told reporters he had spent time on the course with the England captain. “I think Cain is a great player. I played golf with him and I really like him. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great,” Trump said.
Ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway, Kane detailed the details and admitted the whole experience was still a bit surreal. “Honestly, I had no problem playing, but he invited me to play 18 months ago when I was in Palm Beach,” Kane said.
“So when the president invited you somewhere, just to meet him and obviously play golf with him, it was a pretty surreal experience.”
The Bayern Munich striker, who is an avid golfer off the pitch, said he was surprised at how well the 80-year-old Trump played. “To be honest, he plays pretty good golf. I wish I could play as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. It’s a unique experience, but I’m just grateful that he invited me to play,” Kane said.

The 32-year-old was speaking at the England team’s training base at Inter Miami’s facilities in Fort Lauderdale, where another celebrity dropped by to offer his support. MLS club co-owner David Beckham attended Friday’s session with his sons Romeo and Cruz, and spoke to the team in the gym before the players took to the field.
Kane, who has been in regular contact with Beckham during the tournament, revealed what the 115-cap England legend told them. “He just wished us luck. After most games he messages me and we keep in touch,” Kane said.
“He’s a huge England fan. We all know how much it meant to him to represent England, captain him and play like that every time he put on the shirt. So he was there to support us.”
The current captain went out of his way to acknowledge Beckham’s actions in opening up the club’s practice field to the team. “Obviously, we were using his home, the home he built, so we appreciate him doing that for us,” Kane said.

“It was good to catch up with him and for the other players to have a chat with him as well. He’s an England legend,” Kane said.
