The past three British Opens have all been won by Americans: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Brian Herman. It’s the first time since 2003-2006 that an American-born golfer has won four consecutive majors, and many will look to end the drought at the 2026 British Open. In addition to the aforementioned players, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Young and Windham Clark are also potential candidates to win the British Open in 2026. Meanwhile, British players such as Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Aaron Rye are aiming to win the British Open in 2026.

Scheffler is a +700 favorite (risk $100 to win $700) for Open Championship 2026 after winning last year. McIlroy (+850), Tommy Fleetwood (+1500), Matt Fitzpatrick (+1600) and Jon Rahm (+2200) round out the top five. Jordan Spieth, who won the last British Open held at Royal Birkdale in 2017, has a +8000 chance to bet on the 2026 British Open. Before finalizing your 2026 British Open Championship contenders, be sure to check out the 2026 British Open Championship predictions and projected leaderboards from SportsLine’s proven computer model.

Sports line unique golf gambling The model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, simulates every event on the PGA Tour 10,000 times. This same model was successful at a whopping 17 majors entering the weekend, including the 2026 Masters, which will be the fifth consecutive Masters, and last year’s PGA Championship and British Open Championship.

Now that the British Open is set to take place in 2026, the model has simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results are surprising. Visit SportsLine now to see the predicted leaderboards.

Predictions for Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Windham Clark for the 2026 British Open Championship

Here’s one from the Open 2026 model: Windham Clark (+3300), the most recent major champion who won the US Open for the second time, flopped and barely made it into the top 25. While Clark appears to have a grasp on the courses used at the U.S. Open, the same cannot be said for every other major. He has a total of 13 starts in three other majors, but only one top-20 finish. Out of these 13 times, the number of cut failures (6 times) and cut failures (7 times) are almost equal.

Royal Birkdale is one of the 10 shortest courses used during the 2026 PGA Tour schedule, so mileage doesn’t really matter. However, the course has over 100 bunkers, so accuracy is paramount. Clark ranks just 83rd in driving accuracy percentage and 65th in green percentage. Clark is a player who is likely to disappear in the British Open Championship stakes, so don’t expect him to climb the leaderboard again at this major.

The model also examined the odds (+850) of McIlroy winning the British Open twice since winning the tournament 12 years ago in 2014. He remains the last Briton to win the British Open and is aiming to become the 12th golfer to win seven majors. McIlroy has been on the leaderboard in recent tournaments at this major, finishing in the top 10 three times and finishing 46th or lower three times in his past six Open Tournament appearances. He has a promising course history at Royal Birkdale, finishing fourth when the 2017 Open Championship was held at the course. If he can use this momentum to climb to the top of the leaderboard, McIlroy’s seventh major title will be the most by a British golfer alongside Harry Vardon.

The model also predicts that Scheffler (+700) will become the first player since Tiger Woods in 2005-06 to win back-to-back British Open titles with his victory at Royal Birkdale. Scheffler hasn’t had a bad performance at this major tournament, finishing in the top 25 in all five of his British Open appearances. His top-5 and top-10 finishes are on pace with the past two years, but his wins haven’t kept pace. He won his first tournament in 2026, but fell short in the next 13 tournaments.

The difference this year may be that Scheffler struggled in the opening round, despite leading the tour in points in the first game each of the past three seasons. However, he is ranked 34th this year and often finds himself in a hole that is difficult to climb out of. Still, Scheffler’s metrics are unparalleled on the PGA Tour, leading in total, average score, and average birdie strokes gained.
