  • Tottenham enter crowded race to sign Forest defender
  • Forests take the lead in negotiations through long-term contracts

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the escalating battle for one of the Premier League’s most reliable and versatile defenders.

Spurs are looking to strengthen their options across the backline, but targeting players who can play on either flank would give them valuable protection during a tough domestic and European campaign.

The move is also a relatively low-risk recruitment move.

Rather than signing a player who needs time to adapt to English football, Tottenham will bring in a proven international who has already demonstrated his durability, energy and tactical flexibility at Premier League level.

Tottenham enter crowded race to sign Forest defender

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have entered the race to sign Nottingham Forest full-back Neco Williams.

Manchester United and Newcastle United have already shown interest in the 25-year-old, meaning Spurs could face stiff competition if they decide to make an offer.

Williams had an excellent 2025/26 season and was voted Forest’s Player of the Year by the club’s supporters.

Nottingham Forest’s official website praised his consistency after establishing himself as one of Nottingham Forest’s most reliable performers.

His ability to play at right-back, left-back or wing-back is a big part of his appeal. Tottenham will be able to bring in someone who can provide a competitive edge to both sides while allowing the manager to change his formation without making major personnel changes.

Forests take the lead in negotiations through long-term contracts

Forest are under no immediate pressure to sell, so completing a move will not be easy.

The club announced in July 2025 that Williams had signed a new contract until the summer of 2029.

The agreement, combined with interest from three major Premier League clubs, means Forest could demand a big fee or simply refuse to negotiate.

Tottenham would be wise to add Williams. He may not be an attractive contract, but his availability, strength, and positional flexibility could make him very useful over a long season.

However, the Spurs should avoid getting drawn into an expensive bidding war. Williams will strengthen the team, but he may not arrive as a sure-fire starter.

Tottenham should test Forest’s position with a realistic offer and move quickly if the price is right.
