The third round of the 2026 Open will be a must-see match on TV, with Moving Day of the season’s final major championship taking center stage at Royal Birkdale. The inexperienced final pairing of Lucas Herbert and Jackson Suber are scheduled to begin the third round at 10:50 a.m. ET, and as the competitors begin to flock to the golf course, eyes and attention will likely turn elsewhere.
The biggest question heading into Saturday is whether Bryson DeChambeau’s claims that he might not play come true. The two-time U.S. Open champion is scheduled to start the third round alongside Sam Burns at 10:30 a.m. DeChambeau was in line to play in the final group until Friday night when he received a two-stroke penalty for improving his lie and swing path on the par-4 fifth hole of the second round.
He’ll start a little earlier than expected, as will Rory McIlroy, who wasn’t doing too well in the first round. McIlroy is back in the red on Friday and will start alongside Jacob Bridgman at 7:20 a.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will begin his third round against 2018 champion Francesco Molinari at 9:45 a.m., just 10 minutes after Jon Rahm and Southport’s Tommy Fleetwood started their match.
