  • West Ham offer in-demand Bamba Dieng, who was rejected by Bournemouth
        • West Ham and Hull City are in contention to sign ‘outstanding’ World Cup star

West Ham have been offered the chance to sign former FC Lorient striker Bamba Dieng as a free agent, which could prove to be an interesting one.

Dieng would be a calculated gamble for West Ham, but the appeal is easy to understand.

The Senegalese international is available on a free transfer and has experience in major tournaments, having enjoyed a successful season in France.

Dieng scored 10 goals in 22 Ligue 1 appearances for Lorient in the 25/26 season, taking his total to 16 in all competitions.

At 26 years old, he is also reaching his peak.

Dieng scored in the knockout victory over Cape Verde and helped Senegal win the 2022 African Cup of Nations. He then found the back of the net against Qatar in the 2022 World Cup, and returned for the 2026 tournament, playing seven minutes against France, but remaining on the bench for Senegal’s other matches.

He has also produced some great moments at club level.

Dieng’s overhead kick in Marseille vs. Strasbourg was named Ligue 1’s Goal of the Season for 2021/22, and Dieng will provide West Ham with pace, movement and a direct threat behind the defence.

He can lead the line or play alongside other forwards, giving Nuno Espirito Santo another option.

It would be a risk as his goalscoring record hasn’t always been consistent, but if Nuno believes he can bring his best qualities to life in England, a free transfer could be a smart business.

West Ham offer in-demand Bamba Dieng, who was rejected by Bournemouth

TEAMtalk’s Graham Bailey reports that Dieng was offered to West Ham after leaving Lorient at the end of his contract.

The newspaper said the striker’s agents are exploring opportunities in England as he considers the next stage of his career.

Bournemouth also reportedly made an early approach, but manager Dieng was not convinced as he believed he would be used primarily as an international player.

This decision suggests that regular football will play a big role in his selection. Dieng has also been offered offers by Middlesbrough, with TEAMtalk claiming Wrexham and Hull City have made their strongest move yet.

Wrexham are said to have made the biggest contract offer in their history. Hull are also looking for more firepower and have put forward attractive offers, but Dieng has not committed to either Championship club.

West Ham’s position remains unclear. Just because an offer has been made for the player does not mean the Hammers have started negotiations, with reports not claiming a deal is close.

That opportunity will only be available if Nuno and the club’s recruitment team decide that Dieng is a good fit for their plans.

There is competition outside of England. Al-Shabab and Amezspor are reportedly interested, while Valencia, Real Betis, Sevilla and Nice are all monitoring his situation.

However, the race is said to be rough, and there is a possibility that Irons will still make a strong attack.
