  • Chelsea very keen to sign Alex Scott
        • Fabrizio Romano says the player wants to follow Rodgers in joining Chelsea and talks are ongoing

Chelsea are now one of the favorites to sign Alex Scott following important updates regarding his future at AFC Bournemouth.

The Blues have launched a move for a new central midfielder given Enzo Fernandes’ future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain, but the Scot, who made 80 appearances for Bournemouth, is being tested in the Premier League.

Even while at Bristol City, the English player caught the eye of manager Josep Guardiola, with the former Manchester City manager describing him as “incredible” after his side’s 3-0 FA Cup win at Ashton Gate.

Since then, the 22-year-old has established himself as a key player for Bournemouth, averaging 12.2 defensive contributions per 90 goals in the Premier League last season, the best figure for Andoni Iraola’s side.

The Guernsey-born midfielder has a contract at the Vitality Stadium until the summer of 2028, but it has emerged he may be reluctant to extend his stay.

Sky Sports reports that the Scot has rejected a new contract from Bournemouth despite strong interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Three Premier League teams are the frontrunners in the race to sign the central midfielder, but whether he signs a new deal or not, his current employers are not looking to raise funds this summer.

The deal could be very expensive, with reports suggesting the Cherries could hold out for a fee in excess of £80m.

Who most needs to sign Alex Scott?

With Fernandes likely to leave, Chelsea may need to sign a new midfielder this summer. Including the Club World Cup, the Argentine played 61 games in all competitions for the Blues last season, scoring 16 goals and providing 10 assists. The 25-year-old may be difficult to replace as Bruko is one of the most important players, but the Scot has a proven track record in the Premier League.

Arsenal are also looking for a new midfielder, with Martin Zvimendi on the bench for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. Miles Lewis-Skelly was selected ahead of the Spaniard, but the youngster is still only 19 and inexperienced. The Gunners’ need to sign a new midfielder could be compounded by concerns over the fitness of Declan Rice, who has featured in six of England’s seven World Cup matches.

Man United’s need to sign a new midfielder is due to Casemiro leaving the club at the end of his contract. Manuel Ugarte also suffered a knee injury at the World Cup and is expected to be sidelined for a long time. Fortunately for Michael Carrick, United have already managed to sign two midfielders in Andrej Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Scott is not the only English midfielder Chelsea are eyeing, with Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton also showing interest and new manager Xabi Alonso said to be a big fan. The Blues are also set to sign England World Cup star Morgan Rodgers, who has completed a medical.
