  • A move to Manchester United is Lewis Hall’s preferred option
  • Newcastle United still have influence over his next move

Manchester United are reportedly in a favorable position in the race to sign a new left-back, with one of their main targets believed to be favoring a move to Old Trafford over joining Chelsea.

Both clubs are looking for a long-term solution on the left side of defence.

Chelsea need a replacement for Marc Cucurella after his move to Real Madrid, while United are hoping to step up the competition for Luke Shaw and give him more reliability in a position frequently hit by injuries.

The Newcastle defender’s age, Premier League experience and ability to play in midfield make him attractive to both parties.

But his apparent preferences could shape the direction of the transfer battle.

Newcastle have not agreed to a sale, meaning Man United still face difficult inter-club negotiations.

A move to Manchester United is Lewis Hall’s preferred option

Lewis Hall would prioritize a move to Man United if he were to leave Newcastle this summer, according to TEAMtalk’s Graham Bailey.

Chelsea have been keeping tabs on the former academy player, but his wishes have made his return to Stamford Bridge much more difficult.

United reportedly see Hall as a potential long-term successor to Shaw, rather than just short-term cover.

The 21-year-old initially played for a few minutes, before gradually establishing himself as manager Michael Carrick’s first-choice left-back.

Chelsea are currently evaluating replacement players, including Real Madrid defender Alvaro Carreras.

This change in focus suggests the London club may be reluctant to invest significant time into signing the player if he is attracted to a Premier League rival.

Newcastle United still have influence over his next move

The Guardian has confirmed that United are monitoring Hall, along with Fulham’s Anthony Robinson.

Hall is under contract at Newcastle until 2029, but the Magpies paid Chelsea £28m plus add-ons to sign him permanently.

From United’s perspective, reported preferences are the real driver.

The player’s convincing may have already been achieved, allowing the club to focus on reaching an agreement with Newcastle.

However, Newcastle are under no immediate pressure to sell and could demand a big profit.

Hall’s youth, versatility, and room to grow make him a smart choice long-term.

United should press hard but avoid overpaying just because they are ahead of Chelsea in the race.
