Vinicius Junior was a long-time Real Madrid star, but contract negotiations were halted under Xabi Alonso’s difficult reign and have not resumed.
This is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who added that Real Madrid officials have not ruled out selling Vinicius this summer amid growing interest from Arsenal.

The Brazil international has one year left on his contract at Madrid, so now could be a good time for the club to sign him, and Jacobs said Arsenal were ready to “take advantage” of the move.
A reporter from The Athletic reported this article yesterday. For more information and insight into how Real now face losing such a star name, check out Jacobs’ post on X below…
Mr. Jacobs posted: “No bids have been made yet but it is seen as a viable option. #AFC Given that Vinicius Jr. currently has one year left on his contract, he is ready to be opportunistic. A degree of caution is warranted given Real’s every move, but Arsenal are willing to open negotiations if encouraged by the player.
“Vinicius Junior has yet to sign a new Real Madrid contract and despite the lack of progress, Real officials should not discount a sale this summer. Negotiations have been ongoing for more than a year and an extension was once close, but Vinicius Junior suspended negotiations following a conflict with Xabi Alonso and no agreement has been reached since then.”
How realistic is Vinicius Junior moving to Arsenal?
Arsenal fans will be desperate for updates on this exciting story, but it appears things are still in the early stages.
Yann Diomande’s future will also be a key factor in determining Vinicius’ future, as the RB Leipzig winger appears to be the 26-year-old’s ideal successor.
Sky Sports currently claim that Real still have work to do on the deal after Leipzig rejected a starting offer for Diomande.
It may mean Arsenal will have to be patient, but it is a sign of their ambition that they are even willing to consider signing a big name that could be a game-changer for the club.
Arsenal sign biggest Galactico signing ever?
Arsenal have successfully made several major reinforcements in the past, and the addition of Dennis Bergkamp was a hot topic at the time, but the signing of Mesut Ozil came completely out of the blue in the summer of 2013.

Declan Rice then became Arsenal’s club record signing in the summer of 2023 and helped take the team to the next level, but the signing of Vinicius will undoubtedly be on a whole other level.
Arsenal won the Premier League title last season and reached the Champions League final, so the addition of a world-class attacking talent like Vini Junior could help cement their dominance at the highest level.
