  • Martin Zubimendi speaks about Arsenal’s move
  • Zubamedy picks out former teams Odegard and Merino.

Arsenal has finally announced the signature of Spanish central midfielder Martin Zubimendi after months of speculation.

Gunners fans can now see Zubimendi wearing the club’s colours on the official website. As a deal we have known for a long time, we can finally become official.

Zubimendi joined from La Liga Club Real Sociedad, announced a few days ago by goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, making it Arsenal’s second summer signing.

Still, the credits must be sent to the BBC’s Sami Mokbel. BBC’s Sami Mokbel reported on Zubimendi’s deal this summer in January, but he was still working through email.

It took some time for everything to be confirmed, but Zubimendi is here now and is told on the Arsenal website why he joined.

Martin Zubimendi speaks about Arsenal’s move

“Once I decided to leave, I found my eyesight at Arsenal because I think their playing style would suit me,” Zubimendi told Arsenal.com.

“It’s a young, very motivated, ambitious team. They’ve shown their potential recently and I believe the best hasn’t come yet. As soon as you step in here, you’ll realize how big this club and this team are.

“This is a big moment in my career. It’s a move I was looking for. It’s something I wanted to make. Of course, it’s a big change, but I’m ready to start.”

Zubamedy picks out former teams Odegard and Merino.

Zubimendi has previously played with two current Arsenal players Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino at Sociedad. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is also a member of the Spanish international.

Merino moved from Sociedad to Arsenal last summer, and Odegard spent time lending at the Basque Club early in his career.

Zubimendi says he’s happy he’s working with these two again, as it should help make it easier for him to settle in North London.

“I’m happy to be here with them. I’ve played a lot of games with Merino over the years,” he added.

“It’s important because it makes the transition much easier for me. I’m sure they’ll help a lot.”
