Sam Arson Shines as Flyers’ Goalie, Clinching Triumph in the 2025-26 Season

The Philadelphia Flyers have positioned Samurson Arson as their primary goaltender heading into the 2025-26 season, despite ongoing concerns about their goaltending situation. At 25 years old, Arson faced challenges due to limited experience, preparation, and support, especially during the latter part of the 2023-24 season when the team struggled. Following Carter Hart’s departure, the Flyers’ goaltending options narrowed to Arson, Cal Petersen, Felix Sandstrom, and later Ivan Fedotov.

In his first full NHL season, Arson appeared in 51 games, posting a 23-19-7 record, a 2.82 goals-against average (GAA), an .890 save percentage, and four shutouts. Last season, Fedotov and rookie Alexei Korosov both backed up Arson at different times, but Korosov struggled with injuries, underscoring the importance of availability. Arson completed the season with a 22-17-5 record, a 3.14 GAA, an .883 save percentage, and two shutouts, earning more support from fans compared to when the season began.

Though Arson may not yet be a full-time starter or the top NHL goaltender, branding him as one of the worst in the league is unfair. During the 2023-24 season, by January 20, Arson had played 21 games while Hart had played 26, with Arson’s stats being competitive or better in some areas. Hart left the Flyers in less than ideal circumstances, and looking to social media for a Hart comeback seems pointless as he hasn’t played competitively in 18 months. Ivan Fedotov, who also spent a year without playing, similarly represents lost time in development.

This summer, the Flyers signed Dan Vladar, a 27-year-old goaltender expected to start around 30 NHL games for the first time, providing support to keep Arson fresh throughout the season. Whether the goaltending duties will be split evenly or tilted in favor of Arson, the Flyers have demonstrated their commitment to their 2018 fifth-round pick. Unless there’s a decline in Arson’s performance, there is growing confidence that he can be a reliable presence for the Flyers moving forward.

Fan Take: This goaltending update is crucial for Flyers fans who have long awaited stability in net, and Arson’s development could signal a turning point for the franchise. For the sport, nurturing young, homegrown talent like Arson is vital to building competitive, long-term team success.
