Storms Shake Sky Guard: A Straight-Talking Look at Blown Basketball Losses

Chicago Sky remain winless in the two games following the 2025 WNBA All-Star break. On Thursday, they suffered a humiliating 38-point defeat at home against the Seattle Storm at the Wintrust Arena, losing 95-57. This loss came shortly after a 91-68 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx the previous Tuesday, marking Chicago’s fourth consecutive loss in the early part of the 2025 season.

After the crushing defeat in front of their home crowd, Chicago guard Rachel Banham expressed frustration with the team’s performance. "It felt gross," Banham told reporter Kari Bell. "That’s probably how you all see it too. We’re inconsistent, and it just feels rough. This is not the kind of basketball we want to be known for."

The dominant Storm controlled the game on both ends of the court, shooting 53.6% overall with nine made three-pointers out of 20 attempts. Defensively, Seattle held Chicago to just 33.9% shooting. Ball handling was a major issue for Sky, as they committed 20 turnovers, which Seattle converted into 26 points. In contrast, Seattle only made 11 turnovers, conceding just eight points from those mistakes.

Chicago notably missed the presence of star forward Angel Reese, who was sidelined due to back problems that also kept her out of the Lynx game. Reese, who averages a double-double with 13.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, has been a crucial player for the Sky. Without her, Chicago’s record has fallen to 7-17.

Fan Take: This series of losses highlights the challenges Chicago Sky face while missing a key player like Angel Reese, underscoring how vital her leadership and presence are on the court. For WNBA fans, it’s a reminder of the competitive intensity of the league and how injury impacts can shift team dynamics, potentially changing the playoff landscape this season.
