There are just 64 days left until the San Jose Sharks kick off their season against the Vegas Golden Knights at the SAP Center.

The number 64 jersey has been worn only twice in the franchise’s history. Jamie McGinn donned it from 2009 to 2012, followed by Michael Granland during the 2024-25 season.

McGinn was with the Sharks for four years after being selected in the second round of the 2006 NHL Draft. During his time in San Jose, he scored 27 goals and contributed 22 assists, totaling 49 points over 204 games. After leaving the Sharks, he continued his career with the Colorado Avalanche, wrapping up an 11-season NHL career with 117 goals and 103 assists in 617 games, amassing 220 points.

Granland spent part of his two seasons with the Sharks before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of the Eric Carlson deal. In those two seasons, he put up 27 goals and 78 assists, totaling 105 points in 121 games. Granland was a highly productive player in San Jose and was traded again at the 2025 NHL deadline to the Dallas Stars. Over his 13-year career, he has accumulated 610 points in 902 games.

As summer winds down, August stands as the final hockey-free month, giving NHL fans the perfect reason to eagerly anticipate the upcoming season.

Fan Take: The countdown to the Sharks’ season opener energizes hockey fans eager to see dynamic players like Granland in action. This period of anticipation highlights the sport’s deep-rooted excitement and the ongoing legacy of key players shaping the NHL’s future.
