As Liverpool centre-back emerges as Chelsea’s target, there is a “final talk” that will determine Ibrahima Conate’s future.
According to a report from KOP’s Empire, Reds chiefs are still trying to sort out Conate’s new deal, and the final round of negotiations appears to be on the agenda to reach an agreement.
This follows today’s early report claiming that Chelsea will be in the race for Conate and can quickly make a direct approach to him.
Conate is a key player for Liverpool, so he will be desperate to avoid losing him despite being the final year of his contract.
That could mean that the LFC will ultimately decide that it makes more sense to cash in to French International rather than risk losing him for free in a year.
Ibrahima Konate – Will he stay or will he go?
Konate is not the kind of player Liverpool wants to lose, whether it’s free or a reduction fee.
The 26-year-old looks very important to Arne Slot’s team when Virgil Van Dijk recently turned 34.
There are things they can really do, even if they don’t have any doubts about someone as important as Conate, not Liverpool’s most solid preseason.
Liverpool links with possible conate alternatives
Still, Liverpool may already be planning on departing Conate as it links with potential alternatives.
Crystal Palace Central Defender Mark Gahee is strongly linked to Liverpool by the Telegraph, and he could be an ideal option.
Not only has it been proven already in the Premier League, but Guehi is also in a similar situation to Konate in that he will become a free agent next summer, so he could potentially travel for a short fee this year.
And according to a post from Fabrizio Romano above on X, it appears that talented Italian youth Giovanni Leoni is heading towards Anfield, who could become a wise defensive signature for the present and future.
