Newcastle told how to fend off transfer interest for star player

Moving forward, Newcastle will want to avoid a repeat of the situation that happened with Alexander Isak in the summer. It may be difficult considering they have a number of top-level players, but Sandro Tonali would be at the top of that list.

Tonali has emerged as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League over the past 12 months, which has also attracted transfer interest. Juventus are keen to bring him back to Italy, while European champions PSG have recently set their sights on the all-action star.

Despite this, Newcastle want to tie Tonali to a new deal, and Pete O’Rourke (via Football Insider) has revealed how they can ensure he stays for years to come.

“I don’t think he will be in a hurry to leave St James’ Park either, as long as Newcastle can compete for silver or offer Sandro Tonali Champions League football. He is contracted until 2028.”

“I’m sure the club will sit down and discuss the possibility of a new contract in order to dispel that interest and eliminate speculation about a possible return to Italy. It must be remembered that Newcastle were supportive of Tonali after the betting suspension and all the other off-field incidents.”

“So they will be hoping that he will show some loyalty and decide to stay at Newcastle. I don’t see any movement for him to return to Italy in the near future.”

Tonali’s continued role as manager is essential for Newcastle, and Tonali’s possible departure is likely to be a bigger blow than Isak. For now, he seems happy on Tyneside, but that could change if Eddie Howe’s side’s recent struggles continue.
