  • Vicario is struggling at Tottenham
  • Spurs identify potential replacements

Italian clubs Inter Milan and AC Milan are reportedly looking for a long-term goalkeeping solution this summer, with their sights set on Tottenham’s unstable number one Guglielmo Vicario.

According to TEAMtalk, the 29-year-old Italian is now firmly in his transfer plans, with Spurs already identifying potential replacements.

Vicario has had an eventful life since joining Tottenham from Empoli in 2023.

The towering 1.94m goalkeeper produces excellent shot-stopping and leadership moments, and indeed featured prominently in Spurs’ 2024-25 Europa League campaign, contributing to their success on the continent.

But a recent string of high-profile mistakes, including a costly clearance in the 2-1 home defeat to Fulham, have tested both the fans’ patience and the club’s faith in him.

The same mistake drew boos from supporters and the manager was forced to publicly defend him.

Vicario is reportedly open to returning to Italy as pressure mounts. Sources say that serious consideration is being given to a move to Serie A with either Inter Milan or AC Milan at the end of the season, which would provide a logical reset for both player and club.

Tottenham look ready to take the lead. The club has started monitoring several talented goalkeepers and has shown that it does not intend to wait until the summer to rebuild its squad.

Among their targets are Manchester City’s young English shot-stopper James Trafford and Brighton & Hove Albion’s 23-year-old Dutch keeper Bad Verbruggen.

Trafford has grown frustrated with the lack of playing time at City following the arrival of their new number one.

Spurs see him as a long-term option who can develop into the club’s number one player.

Meanwhile, Verbruggen has impressed with his performances in the Premier League and is now ranked among the top young goalkeepers in Europe, attracting interest not only from Spurs but also from other elite clubs.

Any deal would be aimed at immediately boosting the team’s confidence, especially with European qualification and long-term stability in mind.

For Vicario, a return to Italy could be a fresh start and a chance to re-establish himself in Serie A, closer to home and perhaps with less pressure than at Spurs.
