Arman Tsarukyan Set to Clash with 16-1 UFC Middleweight Following Stunning Title Shot Disqualification

Arman Tsarukyan’s upcoming fight caught many off guard. The Armenian fighter has recently faced frustration, as the UFC has yet to grant him a shot at the lightweight title. Despite his impressive submission win over Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar, Tsarukyan was overlooked in favor of Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett, who will compete for the interim belt at UFC 324 due to Ilia Topuria’s inactivity. Understandably upset by the UFC’s decision, Tsarukyan is not dwelling on it; instead, he plans to stay active, even if it means competing outside the Octagon.

Tsarukyan has charted a course following this snub, vowing to remain as engaged in grappling as he was during his break between victories over Charles Oliveira and Hooker. Earlier this year, he won a decision against PFL competitor Makashalip Zainukov at Karate Combat 54 in May. He then secured a submission win over Patricky Pitbull at ADXC 10 later that month, followed by another submission victory against MMA legend Benson Henderson at ACBJJ 18 in September.

According to Red Corner MMA, Tsarukyan is set to face UFC middleweight Shara “Bullet” Magomedov in a grappling match on December 30th under the Hype FC banner. Magomedov, a Dagestani striker known for his innovative stand-up techniques including a knockout with a double spinning backfist, holds a 16-1 MMA record with five wins in six UFC appearances. The match will be contested at 185 pounds and can only be won by submission, marking a clash of Tsarukyan’s grappling skills against Magomedov’s striking.

The bout takes place in Tsarukyan’s home country, and he hopes to conclude the year on a positive note despite UFC’s recent choices. Fans have largely sided with Tsarukyan, predicting his dominance over the larger middleweight Magomedov in grappling. Many comments emphasize Tsarukyan’s grappling superiority and anticipate a quick submission, with remarks acknowledging the size gap but focusing on technique and skill advantage.

Fan Take: This unexpected grappling showdown highlights Tsarukyan’s resilience and adaptability, traits crucial for any fighter aiming to stay relevant despite setbacks. For fight fans, matches like these offer exciting stylistic contrasts and deeper showcases of martial arts beyond traditional MMA competition, enriching the sport’s competitive landscape.
